I had an accident while driving a vehicle with full coverage insurance through Direct General is general auto insurance any good. They declared my vehicle a total loss before even viewing my damage. Then it took them 3 weeks to complete their estimate and cost value of my truck. I had to get a rental car on my own and was told that my policy did not have rental coverage. I thought that odd, since I ask for rental coverage and was told I had rental coverage by my agent. Then as they checked further into my policy, they found that I have rental reimbursement through a third party agency.
This is underhanded, undercutting of my auto insurance, without my authorization. I would have never agreed to this. So, not only do they not provide the rental car coverage, but what they do provide is a reimbursement policy. I have to pay for the car upfront. Then they only pay for 10 days.
So I have had to pay for an additional 12 days simply because they would not follow up with the adjuster to get my information. I had to make repeated phone calls to the claims office, my agents office and the actual adjusters office in order to get the report when I did. They refuse to reimburse me for the 12 extra days that was due to their negligence, because afterall, Direct General does not provide the rental coverage, that is a third party company. My other problem is that they claim my truck a "total loss" and are not offering the fair value of my truck.
I did all the research and forwarded them dealer prices on comparable vehicles in my area. I'm from Kentucky, and they are using prices from Northern Ohio, Lower Michigan and somewhere near the Tennessee border on the Kentucky side. I don't understand why they don't use vehicles in my area. It's like they went out of their was to find lower cost vehicles to make up the cost value on my truck.
